Civil Engineer at Honolulu

Job Description

The Infrastructure and Environmental Division of URS is seeking a talented, motivated and team oriented Civil Engineer, for immediate employment in the Honolulu, Hawaii office to work with an outstanding group of engineers and drafters. The successful candidate will demonstrate motivation and interest in developing a career in Civil Engineering to support a wide variety of civil and infrastructure projects, including Wastewater Collection, Airport Airside, Roads and Highways, Site Development, and Water System projects. The successful candidate will gain engineering experience through project opportunities, become licensed as a Professional Engineer, and over time will have the opportunity for increased design and project responsibilities within URS. URS provides our employees with interesting and professional challenging projects and assignments.Incumbent responsibilities: Support, and work under the direction of senior or experienced project managers and senior/lead engineers, in producing project deliverables Under the direction of a professional or suitably experienced engineer, independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, use judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications Assist on unusual problems and reviewed for application of sound professional judgment Prepare design documents (plans, specifications, and cost estimates) for general civil and infrastructure projects May assign tasks to and coordinates work with less experienced engineers, technicians and administrative staff Train less experienced staff in design and on engineering software Prepare project drawings and deliverables in AutoCAD 2012 and Civil3D Work with drafters, including coordination and performance of CAD work; receive training from drafters on standards, plan layout, quality Perform work that involves plans, specifications, estimates, investigations, surveys, structures or equipment with some complex features for which there are precedents Assist in determining schedule and budget requirements Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes Perform standard computations and analyses with minimum direction Draw engineering conclusions for data analysis within area of technical proficiency Review and utilize topographic survey data Run basic design models, calculations and design software, such as HECRAS based programs and, AutoCAD Civil 3D design modules Begin to interact directly with client to gather information and discuss project requirements Conduct detail checks of plans, exhibits and calculations Determine the permitting requirements for the particular type of work being designed for the location in which it is to be constructed Learn the URS Quality Management System (QMS), and be responsible for quality actions and documentation of QMS records for assigned tasks Prepare and maintain project documentation including meeting agendas and minutes, field notes, records of basis of design and design decisions, prepare Basis of Design Reports Make occasional site visits and document conditions in the field Participate in client meetings with senior engineersThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above.Do the best work of your life! Job Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university Minimum four years of relevant experience in general civil engineering projects Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate Capability/proficiency in AutoCAD 2012/Civil 3D Ability to work effectively in teams, and within time budgets and schedule constraints Strong verbal and writing communication skills Good understanding of engineering techniques Capable of using design software, models, etc. to solve complex issues with direction from senior staff Basic knowledge of types of code and permit requirements for Hawaii Willingness to work under direction, seek out and accept guidance and teaching, accept and work within project and office procedures and requirements Willingness and capability to analyze and solve engineering design challenges Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools;Word, Excel and Outlook Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
