Every day, our Operations Support Specialists provide a variety of management services essential to the direction and operation of USCIS and assist management in administering policies and procedures.

 

This position of OPERATIONS SUPPORT SPECIALIST starts at a salary of $48,425.00 (GS-09 step 1), with promotion potential to $62,948.00 (GS-09 step 10).  Apply for this exciting opportunity to become a member of the Field Operations Directorate, Office of Field Operations, District 26, Honolulu HI Field Office, Honolulu, HI within DHS US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

As an Operational Support Specialist, you will provide a variety of management services essential to the direction and operations of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Your job duties may include any or all of the following:

  • Assignments related to human resources, occupational safety and health, facilities management, security, logistics, purchasing, asset and fleet management, budget and financial management, customer relations and management analysis.
  • Performing hiring actions related to filling positions, preparing and processing personnel actions, processing new employees entering on duty, managing positions using databases and spreadsheet, providing information to employees concerning benefits issues, Time and Attendance and pay issues, and tracking issuance of performance plans and appraisals.
  • Preparing requisitions, purchasing routine equipment, supplies and services, monitoring expenditures against budget execution plans, and collecting data for budget requests and analyses.
  • Updating asset management systems, performing property management inventories, scheduling motor vehicle maintenance and repairs, receiving and accepting shipments which require frequent lifting of up to twenty five pounds, disposition of excess property, and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies.
  • Performing as a Collateral Duty Safety Officer to conduct safety inspections to control or eliminate unsafe conditions in the workplace, and assist in administering Occupational Safety and Health and Workers Compensation Programs.

GS-9: You qualify at the GS-9 grade level if you possess one of the following:

  • One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal Government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the job duties. In addition to the requirements for the lower grade levels, you must also have experience performing the following duties: updating budget data on spreadsheets and preparing routine budget requests; preparing requests for personnel action and orientation to new employees; coordinating office moves and telephone service requirements; monitoring usage of government motor vehicles; collecting and analyzing information related to workflow, office procedures and control systems in support of program evaluations; identifying and recommending solutions to administrative problems and providing advice to staff on established methods and procedures. OR
  • You may substitute a Masters degree or 2 full years of graduate education leading to such a degree in any field or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree for experience required at the GS-9 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours.
