School Bus Manager at Kailua Kona

Job Description

I.  Job Purpose/Objective

To oversee and maintain daily operations in the School Bus Division. Identify new business opportunities that will increase business volume. Ensure that all aspects of contractual obligation are fulfilled. Provide leadership and direction for employees, to encourage a safe and smooth operation.

 

II.  Essential Job Functions

Incumbent may perform any or all of the following:

·  Maintain and oversee daily operations in all areas (SPED & Big Bus)

·  Handle daily complaints- document, respond, follow through

·  Coordinate/assign drivers with charters, in conjunction with contract runs- Big Bus

·  Must specify drivers to a daily set route

o  Assign vehicle/driver to daily routes (adjust as needed)

·  Monitor and ensure all routes are covered

o  Update/change van and big bus schedules as needed when drivers call in sick, etc…

·  Must be available to deal with employee concerns

·  Check Midday and Charter (Big Bus) schedules daily, confirm drivers and post to board

·  When Training Dept. calls schedule training for drivers (DDC, T19, CPR?FA classes) to meet contract specifications

·  Inform maintenance of any necessary repairs and/or discrepancies on vehicles

o  Track progress of work to judge impact on operations

·  Set-up new hire packets/training procedures (ex: forms, timesheets, documentation, etc.)

·  When assigning a driver to a new route assign senior driver to train

·  Have regular visits to all base yards

·  Answer phones before and after hours

·  Fill in as a driver if needed

·  Upkeep daily employee profile

o  Write-ups- ensure write ups re-documented and given to Admin. Clerk for filing

o  Absences- all proper paperwork included with documentation

o  Accidents- (use pink procedure forms)/ disciplinary problems (use marigold colored forms)

o  Use pink employee request forms for time off

o  Compliments/complaints

·  Meet all contractual requirements for DOE

o  Set up annual vehicle/employee roster for each school year to DOE

o  Mileage forms (Due- October)

o  Assist SPED (assisting parents with students needs)

·  Assist lead Drivers and Supervisors with providing info on yearly setup for new FSY

·  Assist ops with maintaining fleet stats

·  Provide/calculate EOY incentive for employees

·  Must be able to answer/ fill requests from executive office

·  At EOD (End of Day) meet with lead driver to coordinate/review coverage for next day operations

 

Marginal Duties:

·  Attend all meetings- Staff, Operational, Executive

·  Assist with price quotes on charters as needed

·  Assist in processing of paperwork when necessary

·  Other duties and/or assignments as needed

 

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Job Requirements

  • Essential Skills (Minimum qualifications individual must possess when entering position) – i.e. skillsets, education, certifications, etc.
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Two to three years related experience and/or training
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
    • Computer proficiency (able to utilize/manipulate programs- mail merge, spread sheets/ formulas, create charts, merge programs, etc.)
    • Valid driver’s license, clean traffic and criminal abstract
    • First Aid, CPR certified
    • Pass DDC (Defensive Driving Course)
    • Learn and pass test on Title 19
    • Must be able to work flexible shifts
    • Able to write routine reports and correspondence
    • Able to speak effectively before groups of team members, management
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
    • Adapts to change, is open to new ideas, takes on new responsibilities, handles pressure, adjusts plans to meet changing needs
    • Plans for and uses resources efficiently, always looks for ways to reduce costs, creates accurate and realistic budgets, tracts and adjusts budgets, contributes to budget planning
