SUPERVISORY ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN at Pearl Harbor

This position is located in the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PHNSY & IMF).  You will serve as a Project Engineering and Planning Manager, and will be responsible for providing quality, timely planning support for assigned availabilities.

 

Salary will be increased by the applicable cost-of-living allowance (COLA), which is subject to change without notice.

As a Supervisory Engineering Technician, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing quality, timely planning support with budget and meeting availability schedules of varying sizes.
  • Supervising and responsibility of personnel from the Engineering and Planning Department.
  • Assigning work to subordinate personnel, ensuring timely completion and quality of work.
  • Coordinating activities with key Project Team personnel such as: Project Superintendents, Zone Managers, Resource Managers, Chief Test Engineers, and other various shipyard departments.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing technical engineering support services for the repair, modification or overhaul of ships or submarines. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Assessing project and program effectives.
  • Planning and providing guidance on technical engineering projects.
  • Investigating, evaluating, advising on, and resolving unusual problems, issues, and conditions relating to the repair and overhaul of naval ships or submarines.

REQUIREMENTS:

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.  All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

Position may require walking, bending, or climbing. 

Position may require Shipchecks during ships deployment and may occur around operating machinery.

Position may require occasional overtime, weekend, or holiday work.

Selectee may be required to complete a one-year supervisory or managerial probationary period.

Position may require occasional travel, which may involve flying to locations of assigned ships, emergent work, or training.

May be assigned to work areas where certain potential harmful physical and chemical agents are present, such as: fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc.

To ensure employee safety and health, the Shipyard maintains personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations which may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personnel protective equipment, and medical surveillance. 

As part of the medical surveillance programs, you may be required to take medical examinations to assess your medical qualification for duty involving work with harmful potentially harmful physical and chemical agents.
