Business Unit Controller
Pay: up to $150k DOE plus 10%
Essential Functions of this position:
General Accounting functions
Sarbanes Oxley and Internal Control management.
Oversee forecast, analysis and reporting function
* Must be able to function with minimal direction and be a highly motivated self-starter as location is remote in terms of distance and time zone from corporate support.
Controller is responsible for:
- Responsible for timely and accurate financial close and analysis including review and approval of monthly journal entries; review reconciliation of contracts to P&L, inventory, transportation and product cost accounting.
- Oversee local A/P function including coordinating payments with Corporate Treasury, proper coding classification, documentation (contractual, quantity and price) and approval of expenses.
- Manage and maintain financial information in 3 separate lines of business through SAP initially and then consolidated into Corporate Oracle system.
- Oversee preparation of intercompany sales elimination entries and ensure these also eliminate any profit in transferred inventory.
- Oversee yield accounting analysis and make recommendations for improvement. Analyze inventory gain/loss and ensure variances are acceptable in accordance with established contract operations tolerance.
- Primarily responsible for establishment of transfer pricing to facilitate independent P&L reporting by business line that reflects transactions as a standalone business.
- Oversee business unit budget, forecast and variance analysis process working in collaboration with local management and Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis.
- Screen, select, train, motivate and mentor accounting staff in a manner that promotes individual achievement in a collaborative environment.
- Develop and enhance internal control process and ensure compliance is properly documented in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements. Prepare and present compliance reporting or variance analysis for local and corporate management.
- Develop monthly management and corporate reports (monthly, quarterly, annual)
- Prepare monthly derivative analysis and adjustments.
- Oversee accurate and timely compliance with Department of Energy reporting and other regulatory reports and filings.
- Work with the Tax department consultants and facilitate various tax returns for Motor fuel taxes, sales use tax, property tax and foreign trade zone and duty.
- Become on-site SAP FICO, materials management and inventory subject matter expert and resolve issues that arise using minimal outside consulting resources.
- Other responsibilities as directed by Business Unit Vice President corporate management.
Education & Training required:
Bachelors degree with major in Accounting.
SAP and Hyperion experience preferred.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft products is required.
Masters Degree or CPA required.
Knowledge, Abilities & Specialized Skills:
Familiarity with SEC reporting.
Knowledge of mark-to-market accounting.
A current passport must be maintained.
Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written required.
Ability to maintain attention to detail.
Work Experience required:
Experience in energy products, terminal and logistics accounting preferred.
Retail experience would be a plus.
4-8 years general supervisory accounting experience, including financial reporting and analysis, cost accounting, LIFO or FIFO inventory accounting, logistics and operations experience preferred.
