CLERK (VETERINARY SERVICES) at Fort Shafter

JOB SUMMARY:

US Army Veterinary Services operates as a subsidiary of Public Health Command. Their mission is to provide military veterinary services in support of United States Army Medical Command and Department of Defense missions. The civilian function of the Veterinary Services is a supplemental mission which exists to assist soldiers and their families in the field of animal health and care.

 

This is a FLEX position with the Fort Shafter Veterinary Treatment Facility. Fort Shafter  VTF is a rapidly expanding clinic that focuses on wellness care and minor sickcall. We are looking for an outgoing, hardworking individual that places heavy emphasis on client communication and generating a healthy, positive working environment. The Work schedule to be determined after hire. No TDY, weekends, shift work, or holidays.

Provides full client services for an animal clinic. Receives telephone calls and visitors to the clinic, determines the nature of call or visit, obtains identifying information, and verifies the patients eligibility for treatment. Schedules appointments, completes the client admission forms. Updates the existing medical file or collects sufficient information to prepare new file. Provides concise accurate information to veterinary care provider on nature of the visit. Screens records at check in to verify all routine procedures such as vaccinations, heartworm tests, etc. are up-to-date. Escorts clients from the waiting room to the examination area. Dispenses medications, annotates prescriptions and refills prescriptions in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Provides standard client education regarding husbandry practices and preventive medicine to include nutrition, behavior, obesity, internal and external parasite control, geriatric care, pre and post operative care, treatment instructions, etc. Reviews discharge information or handouts with client. Prepares certificates.  Receives payments for services rendered. Balances cash and checks daily; makes daily bank deposit. Monitors and replenishes inventory.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Ability to communicate orally and deal effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
