VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION
VA PACIFIC ISLANDS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
The Associate Medical Center Director acts as a member of the Senior Management team as an assistant Director and full assistant to the Medical Center Director. The Associate Director works on a day-to-day basis as a peer with the Chief of Staff and Nurse Executive. The Associate Director must demonstrate advanced knowledge and ability to direct complex administrative management systems, plus a working knowledge and understanding of general clinical systems as they relate to patient care, the primary mission of the health care system. The Associate Director will assist the Director in the organization, direction, and coordination of all administrative functions of the medical center and may serve as Acting Director in the Directors absence. Administrative functions may include direction of resources; human resources and information resources management; logistics; facilities and health care environment management; and health services administration. In addition, the Associate Director has lead responsibility for strategic and tactical planning, systematic internal reviews, and receives special analysis projects and studies.
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hrs per week

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For the GS-15 level, you must have at least 52 weeks at or above the GS-14 level.
Specialized Experience Requirement: To qualify for this position at the GS-15 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. Work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and provided knowledge of the following:
- Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems;
- Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and
- Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement.
Applicants must also possess:
- Management ability to delegate authority, evaluate and oversee people and programs, recognize and adapt to changing priorities; and
- Knowledge of the interrelationships and interdependencies among various medical and administrative services and programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Most of the work performance is at a desk, in an office setting. Position may require minimal walking for direct supervision, survey and environment of care issues. The incumbent occasionally carries books and papers to and from meetings and conferences.
Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this level.
