This position is located within the Occupational Health Department of the Naval Health Clinic Hawaii.

·  The incumbent obtains and reviews patients medical and occupational history.

·  Evaluates patients for referral to nurse or physician.

·  Performs vision screenings, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms.

·  Documents data in patients medical records and other documents on both hard and electronic forms

·  Counsels patients regarding test results, health promotion topics and workplace health hazards.

·  Assist in answering telephones, scheduling patient appointments, ordering supplies, and maintain accurate logs and tracking systems.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor needed in order to qualify. The actual Selective Placement Factor is certification in a National Institute for Occupational Saftey and Health (NIOSH) approved Spirometry course, completion of the Occupational Hearing Conservation Technician Certification Course and a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.   Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating.  Possession of the factor must be verifiable via submitting a copy of the certification of   Spirometry and Hearing Conservation with your application.

 

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-05: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

 

  • Experience arranging and preparing   patients for medical screenings i.e., spirometry, audiometry, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, hearing tests and vision screenings.
  • Experience assembling, maintaining and reviewing patient medical records.
  • Experience  managing telephone inquiries and scheduling medical appointments.
  • Experience interpreting and inputting medical information into medical data system.

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

 

  • Experience performing medical screenings i.e., spirometry, audiometry, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, hearing tests and vision screenings.
  • Experience providing counseling regarding test results, health topics, and workplace health hazards.
  • Experience abstracting medical data from the records to provide information to physicians and nurses.

 

 

 

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.   You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

EDUCATION:

 

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: (GS-, 05 level only) Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree, with major study or at least 24 hours in subjects directly related to the position.

 

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.

 

No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience at GS-6

Special Requirements

Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.


A SECRET security clearance is a requirement of this position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal.


Position may require occasional travel to the Naval Health Clinics/Annexes in the Hawaii area.

 
This position requires light lifting under 15 pounds.

You will be rated under Category Rating procedures based on the extent to which your experience meets the Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the position and rated as shown below.  Additional points are not added for veterans’ preference; however, preference is still applied. Applicants eligible for veterans preference will receive selection priority over non-veterans.

Best Qualified- Candidates in this category possess exceptional skills and experience to exceed well above the minimum requirements for announced position.
