Environmental Protection Specialist at Kaneohe

This position is in the Department Sustainment, Environmental Compliance and Protection Department (EC&PD), Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), Kaneohe Bay, Oahu, Hawaii.

 

As the Environmental Protection Specialist, your duties and responsibilities include; environmental accountability into the installation’s day-to-day decision making and long-term planning processes across all installation tenant and activity missions, activities, and functions.

· Review documents relating to environmental project and programs for conformity to policy and requirements, technical soundness, appropriateness, and practicality of recommendations.

· Research routine environmental reference, standards, and regulations to ensure compliance on technical operating procedures.

· Develop and implement emergency procedures to protect life and the environment.

· Establish communication mechanisms (both internal and external) to disseminate information and provide a forum for discussion.

·  Tract environmental findings to ensure activity goals are met in correcting issues.

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least 3 year of general work  experience, 1 year which was equivalent to the at least GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Generalized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, recognize solutions.

Experience planning and organizing work. 

Experience communicating effectively orally and in writing.

Or

Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelors degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Or

A combination of general experience as described education that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.

    GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

      Experience interpreting routine environmental processes and procedures.

       

      Experience collecting environmental data.

       

      Experience communicating routine environmental information to customers.

       

      Or

       

      Successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic in subjects directly related to the position. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

       

      Or

       

      A combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.

       

      GS-09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

       

      Experience demonstrating the ability to conduct and manage environmental training for personnel as required to comply with environmental policies and regulations.

       

      Or

       

      Successfully completed a Masters degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LLB., or J.D. (if related). My education demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

      Or

       

      A combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal 100 percent.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.  All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

     

    Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

     

    Work requires a valid state drivers license.

     

    Work may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items.

     

    Work may require driving an automobile during on-site or off-site meetings and to conduct studies and surveys.

     

    Work may require field visits to maintenance and repair work centers, hazardous material storage and hazardous waste accumulation sites, and spill or dump sites occasionally present ricks of exposure and contact with hazardous, noxious, or toxic chemicals, physical and safety hazards, unpleasant or malodorous site conditions, and adverse weather.

     

    Field work occasionally requires the wearing of protective equipment such as boots, gloves and hard hat.
