Wholesale Credit Risk Manager at Honolulu

OVERALL PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Manager, this position will drive the continued strategic development of the wholesale credit risk management framework, especially in the areas of the reserve analysis, policy, analytics, and training. Ensures an ongoing risk competence throughout the organization and integration of appropriate risk management practices within business and management activities. Ensures business units compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act. This position is responsible for serving as the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) champion for the unit. This includes planning, executing, monitoring and measuring the service process.

Leads, innovates, coordinates, evaluates, and documents the BOH Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) process and projections for accurate and timely preparation that complies with accounting and regulatory guidance. Leads and/or participates with all departments, subsidiaries, committees, and all related entities for the ALLL process. Remains current on emerging issues affecting the banking industry and makes recommendations and advises executive management on pending changes in accounting or regulatory guidance with respect to the ALLL. Prepares the asset quality discussions and external disclosures (including SFAS 114) for the Banks quarterly earnings press release, quarterly 10-Q SEC filings and annual 10-K SEC filings. Prepares adhoc analysis as requested. Serves as a bridge between ALLL position management and Financial Reporting processes.

Coordinates various credit, ad hoc, and regulatory-required stress tests in compliance with BOH policies and governmental interagency regulatory guidance. Serves on the enterprise-wide stress test team. Provides general oversight and interpretation on credit policies.

Prepares Board, Management and Investor reporting and analyses on the commercial loan portfolio, market conditions, and lending standards. Coordinates with Wholesale Credit Administrators, Commercial Banking Credit Managers and Primary Relationship Officers in this process when required.

Manages the development and implementation of on-going training of wholesale credit policies, practices, and procedures for beginning analysts and experienced officers. Incorporates all elements of risk management in the training.

Provides leadership and effective management of the departments human and other resources in a cost-effective manner while maintaining appropriate risk and quality control objectives. Utilizes resources efficiently and proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement. Manages cost center budget and reporting. Responsible for the management of all staff members in the section including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development. Goal is to attract retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate. Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.

Works with vendors for commercial credit systems and training software, including negotiating contracts, recommending product enhancements, and tailoring products to meet the banks needs. Ensures that the Bank achieves acceptable return on investment, and researches available software upgrades/alternatives. Must be generally familiar with the Banks information technology architecture, and possess good project management, implementation, credit, and finance skills. Assists credit staff with technology resources to ensure that internal credit communications, including policies and credit content/tools, are current and readily accessible to all internal customers.

This position requires use of a personal computer and other standard office equipment (typewriter, fax, copier, calculator and telephone). Position also requires strong written and verbal communication skills. Lifts, moves, carries, transports files up to 10 lbs.
