Business Analyst - Clinical Workflow (11917) at Honolulu

Job Description

Bishop & Co. is seeking qualified candidates for a direct hire position with a client in the Healthcare IS sector.

Position Summary:

Evaluates, disseminates, and re-designs clinical business workflow for physicians and other health care providers to encourage adoption of the company’s services. The goal is to understand a physician/provider’s current clinical operations and balance them with policies and technical requirements.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Actively promotes the capabilities of HIT systems that will improve clinical workflow
  • Design transitional care policies and procedures for individual provider practices, health centers and hospitals that support approved clinical workflow policies and procedures.
  • Implement policies and procedures in a collaborative way with hospitals, Community Health Centers (CHCs) and individual provider practices.
  • Effectively communicate with physicians, pharmacists, and other ancillary health professionals, regarding the interactions between HIT systems and processes involving the transmission of clinical data.
  • Train and provide continual support to clinical staff involved in re-designed policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of the re-design and adjust with follow-up visits, as necessary.
  • Facilitate communication between and among management, software vendors, staff and workgroup leaders related to transitional care and policies and procedures to address clinical and workflow issues.
  • Communicate and present programs and relevant health IT-related topics such as, health information exchange, Meaningful Use, privacy/security, HIPAA, etc., to physicians and their staff.
  • Be enthusiastic about sharing EHR and/or IT implementation and information exchange information with other health care professionals.
  • Coordinate and organize meetings for various health care stakeholders and HIE technical resources to find ways to optimize the HIE system as a solution for participant organizations.
  • Work closely with Project Director to coordinate evaluation activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings and State team meetings.

Job Requirements

Primary Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of assisting provider practices, CHCs, or similar with the implementation and use of electronic health records, practice management system or other major information technology implementation.
  • Experience promoting quality improvement initiatives in workflow re-design, work processes and information technology.
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and organization.
  • Demonstrated skills in examining and re-engineering operational policy and procedures, formulating new policies aligned to HIPAA regulations, and in developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to gather data from clinical and technical staff in a positive manner, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems, and willingness to retool proposed solutions if they are not working as planned.
  • Ability to work independently on day-to-day responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work at a variety of sites with different schedules and work hours, if necessary.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly in Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to maintain cordial and professional relationships with clients, staff and stakeholders, grant sub-recipient organizations, and the general public.
  • Is motivated to work cooperatively with key institutions and staff at all levels.
  • Flexible hours to attend meetings, perform service calls, and conduct work analysis statewide.


Secondary Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in business, health information management, health informatics or complementary field.
  • Two years of experience can be substituted for every one year of educational requirement.
  • Experience with using EHR as a clinical management tool and/or with an advanced application of EHR (e.g., population health management).
  • Experience with data exchange (such as between hospitals, pharmacies or laboratories).
  • Proficient in MS Project or comparable project management software tool.
  • Experience with iNexx or ProAccess.
