Job Description:The Senior Field Service Technician will report to the Regional Field Service Manager and provide diagnostic, troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance services to commercial PV systems. Additionally, this individual will be required to oversee and schedule the commissioning of the solar array and monitoring systems for new commercial project installations.
The ideal candidate has significant experience and understanding in the design, installation/commissioning, and O&M of commercial scale PV systems.
Responsibilities include:
Test, analyze, and repair problems in Photovoltaic Generation Inverters and monitoring (DAS) Systems, as well as other components of PV facilities (racking, combiners/recombiners, etc.)
Upon completion of construction activities at new sites, complete full system commissioning activities (array, inverter, DAS system, etc) in order to ensure the system has been built properly to achieve anticipated operation, both safely and consistently
Oversight of external commissioning activities at new site builds (e.g. Medium Voltage)
Master Scheduler for those commissioning activities related to projects approaching Permission to Operate / Final Acceptance, as well as scheduling activities related to O&M of operational sites
Reinforce and supplement feedback loop to EPC as Quality/Installation issues are encountered during commissioning or O&M - so that changes in behavior can be instituted as needed
Perform moderately complex but repetitive electrical testing and troubleshooting tasks (Voc/Imp, IV curve tracing, etc.)
Uses, maintains, and secures test devices and tools used to adjust, calibrate, and repair equipment; including clamp-on meters, IV Curve tracer, thermal scanners, Power Quality Analyzer, etc.
Ensures that case (Service ticket) commitments are met within expected response time
Communicates any special situations or problems to Regional Vice President immediately
Able to accurately interpret As-Built drawing sets in relationship to PV installations (rooftop, groundmount, and canopy)
Coordinate and oversee other PV system O&M activities performed by subcontractors on behalf of SolarCity (array cleaning, vegetation abatement, snow removal as necessary) at commercial sites
Manages vehicle inventory and restocks as necessary from warehouse facilities
Completes required paperless documentation - time sheets, case input and closure, inspection forms, inventory, expense reports
Adhere to departmental procedures and safety requirements (OSHA, NFPA 70E, Fall Protection, etc)
Required Qualifications:
Current Journeyman Electrician license in the state of Hawaii preferred.
Recent training and current certification as required in OSHA / NFPA 70E / Safety
Experience with PV system commissioning for sites > 250kw in size
Will have 2+ years of experience with servicing large, central PV inverters (> 100kw)
Will have 5+ years of experience with maintenance and operation of both high and low voltage AC power supplies / transformers
Experience (5+ years) with DC voltage in relationship to Photovoltaic power generation
Some amount of experience (or at least exposure) with wireless communication and TCP/IP communication protocol (utilized by SolarCity proprietary Data Acquisition System)
Adequate computer skills required (particularly MS Office suite of products)
Clean DMV printout and valid Driver License for state of Hawaii
Ability to travel approximately 50% of time within the state of Hawaii
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Excellent customer service skills required
